Gerogetown’s Brocklebank-Nelson-Beecher house, built in 1668, was used as a tavern from 1754 until the mid 1800s when it was purchased by the Reverend Charles Beecher, brother of author Harriet Beecher Stow. The home’s cellar served as a secret hiding place during the days of the underground railroad. The memory of the shoe industry, a cottage industry in Georgetown for generations, is kept alive through numerous displays including a small back yard shoe shop.

The Georgetown – Rowley State Forest is a 1,112 acre preserve offering a variety of year-round activities including horseback riding, hiking, walking, hunting, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.

The town has industrial development areas still available adjacent to Route 95. It also boasts a small downtown, which includes a thriving antiques center, an organ manufacturing company and a supermarket. The town is home to an expanding public golf and country club.
