Incorporated in 1729, Westford was originally noted for its farms and woolen mills. The town features rolling hills, lakes and apple orchards. It is located west of Lowell and north of Concord, almost to the New Hampshire border.

Westford boasts an impressive array of recreation opportunities, including the Nashoba Valley Ski Area, two town beaches on spring-fed ponds and the 350-acre Nashoba Brook Area for cross country skiing, hiking, hunting, nature observing, and snowmobiling. Every year, the town has an Apple Blossom Festival in May, with a parade and the crowning of an apple blossom queen. A Strawberry Festival in June features a craft fair and strawberry shortcake.

Westford is home to companies such as Sonus Networks, Cynosure Laser and Courier Westford.
